Religious Argument in Public Discourse: Measuring the Limits of Religious Freedom in a Secular State

The paper deals with the question of whether religious citizens should have the opportunity to enter public discourse with religious arguments. In the first part, the author clarifies the critical views associated with two proposals for the regulation of religious argumentation – John Rawlsʼs proviso and the doctrine of religious restraint. In the second part, the author points out the questionable theoretical starting points of the proposals and defends their rejection.
Czech original: Príspevok sa zaoberá otázkou, či by veriaci občania mali mať možnosť vstupovať do verejného diskurzu aj s náboženskou argumentáciou. Autor v prvej časti ozrejmuje kritické pohľady spojené s dvoma návrhmi regulácie náboženskej argumentácie – podmienku výhrady Johna Rawlsa a doktrínu náboženskej zdržanlivosti. V druhej časti autor poukazuje na sporné teoretické východiská návrhov a obhajuje ich odmietnutie.
