Recent Judicature on the Transmission of Broadcasting through a Satellite

Programme:

18:30 – 19:15 Court application of Section 22 (2) of the Copyright Act to transmission of broadcasting through a satellite

Lecturer: Mgr. Monika Mareková, M.Jur. (Oxon), attorney-at-law at CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang and cooperating with the Institute of State and Law of the Czech Academy of Sciences

Content of the contribution: The recent judicature has arrived at the conclusion that Section 22 (2) of the Copyright Act can be interpreted, in compliance with the EU law, in a way that even the transmission (communication to the public) through a satellite can be included under the term ‘cable transmission’ referred to in the cited provision. The lecture is going to analyse this conclusion, as well as what impacts it may have not only on the development of the collective administration of rights but also on the judicial creation of law in the Czech Republic.

19:15–19:45 Compered discussion
